Here at Bank Street Animal Hospital we are pet parents just like you. We know how heartbreaking it is to witness your pet near the end of their life. For pets with chronic pain or illnesses that can no longer be managed with medical care, euthanasia is often the most humane option. How does euthanasia work in pets?

Euthanasia involves injecting your pet with a medication that causes them to fall into a peaceful sleep. Once unconscious, it will cause their organs to fail until they are no longer alive. Your pet will feel no pain whatsoever and the process takes only a matter of minutes.

Can I be with my pet during their euthanasia?

Absolutely. We create a comforting environment for you and your pet so you can say your goodbyes in peace. We have a private area used to perform the procedure and you will have as much time as you need to bid farewell. We recommend bringing your pet’s favourite toys or blankets to make them feel even more at ease.
